An Aggregate Testing Technician - Level 1 is an individual who has demonstrated the knowledge and ability to properly perform, record, and report the results of basic field and laboratory procedures for aggregates.

Program Overview:

The program requires a working knowledge of the following AASHTO/ASTM Standards:

T2 / D75 - Sampling Aggregates
T248 / C702 - Reducing Samples of Aggregate to Testing Size
T11 / C117 - Materials Finer Than 75-µm (No. 200) Sieve in Mineral Aggregates by Washing
T27 / C136 - Sieve Analysis of Fine and Coarse Aggregates
T85 / C127 - Specific Gravity and Absorption of Coarse Aggregate
T84 / C128 - Specific Gravity and Absorption of Fine Aggregate
T255 / C566 - Total Moisture Content of Aggregate by Drying
T21 / C40 - Organic Impurities in Fine Aggregate for Concrete

Requirements:

ACI will grant certification only to those applicants who meet both of the following requirements:
  1. A passing grade on the ACI written examination; and
  2. Successful completion of the ACI performance examination.
The two-hour written examination is "open book" and consists of approximately 100 multiple choice questions. There are 8 to 12 questions on each of the Standards. To pass the written examination, both of the following conditions must be met:
  1. at least 60% correct for each of the required standards; and
  2. a minimum score of 70% overall.
The performance examination is "closed book" and requires actual demonstration of the required Standards. The examinee is judged on his/her ability to correctly perform or describe all of the required procedures for each standard. Recertification is necessary every five (5) years, and requires successful completion of both the written and performance examinations.

To GUARANTEE your place, payment must be received at least two weeks prior to the first day of the program. Payment may be made by check, money order, or credit card. Recertification is necessary every five (5) years, and requires successful completion of both the written and performance examinations. Recertification applicants must have a current version of the workbook.

What to Bring

  2. notepaper
  3. a #2 lead pencil
  4. a highlighter (optional)
  5. the workbook you received when you registered for the class.

Cancellations

Cancellations received seven days in advance may cancel and receive one-half of my fee back, or may reschedule at no extra charge for a future class. Another person may take your place if you are unable to attend. If you do not notify ACI and do not show up to the scheduled class, you will receive no money back. If you contact ACI late and wish to reschedule for the next class, there will be a $50.00 rescheduling fee. All notifications must be submitted in writing.

ACI Certification programs are ADA compliant. Individuals with disabilities requiring special accommodations must contact the ACI Certification Department for further information on how to proceed. All requests for special accommodations under ADA are handled on a case-by-case basis and must be made allowing enough time for evaluation and appropriate action by ACI.
